APEC economies should liberalise trade & investment in AP region
YOKOHAMA, November 14 (Itar-Tass) - The APEC economies should
actively promote liberalising processes of trade and investments in the
Asia-Pacific region, said here on Sunday Chinese President Hu Jintao,
addressing the final meeting of the 18th APEC summit.
"The 'Bogor Goals', as applied to APEC developed economies, should be
translated into life this year," the Chinese leader said. "This is of
principal importance for the development of this forum." "Following the
spirit of the 'Bogor Goals', the APEC should adapt itself to new
conditions," Hu continued, "effectively use its advantages, to perfect
itself constantly and to display itself better in three main directions."
First, according to the Chinese president, the forum should "promote
further liberalisation of trade and investments in the Asia-Pacific region
in the interests of stepping up rates of regional economic integration".
"Second, the APEC should quickly translate into life its own Growth
Development Strategy to raise the quality of economic development in the
region," Hu noted.
"Third," the president summed up, "forum participants should
strengthen economic and technological cooperation in the interests of
raising abilities of developing countries for further growth and of an
appropriate domestic potential."
