YOKOHAMA, November 13 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
arrived at the breakfast meeting of APEC leaders that opened the official
part of the summit.
Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan met the arriving leaders at the
Intercontinental Yokohama Grand hotel, the site of the meeting. As well as
with other presidents and government heads, Kan shook hands with Medvedev
and exchanged a couple of words and then invited the Russian leader to
come to the hall.
The presidents and the premiers began discussion in the informal
atmosphere at the breakfast. The talks will continue at the working
meeting of APEC leaders.
The APEC summit will begin with a launch meeting in the hotel next to
the Pacifico Yokohama conference centre. Then, the first session of
discussions will be held, where leaders of the region will have an
opportunity to raise any themes.
The working session will be followed by a dialogue with business
leaders of the region.
The day will be concluded with a performance of the Kabuki traditional
Japanese theatre, a photographing ceremony and a dinner.
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation organisation unites 21 countries
and territories. They account for almost 53 percent of the gross world
product and 44 percent of global trade. Among the participants are Russia,
China, the United States, Japan, Canada and Australia.
