Saudi Aid Campaign projects in Asia

Riyadh, August 06, SPA -- In accordance with directives of Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz, The Minister of Interior and General Supervisor of The Saudi Relief Campaign to assist the victims of the Earth Quake and Tsunami that hit Asia, the Campaign handed over to Islamic Development Bank (IDB), a sum of SR28, 500,000 to complete the implementation of a number of development projects in affected countries of Tsunami in East Asia.

Dr. Saed Al-Orabi Al-Harthi, the Advisor to the Minister of Interior and the Head of the Campaign said the amount provided for the implementation of programmes and development projects in vital areas of the affected States is a continuation of the Saudi Arabia's assistance, which was and is still in the core of the event. The Saudi Government has extended assistance generously according to certain mechanisms to ensure it reaches quickly those who are in need in cooperation with local organizations and international institutions.

However, the amounts delivered to the IDB were in installments to implement some projects in the affected States, where the Campaign presented three checks for the amount; the first check carried a sum of SR 24.750 million that represents the second installment of building 500 housing units project in Ache province in Indonesia; the second check worth SR 1.875 million - the last installment for the restoration of Beit-Al-Rahman Mosque in Ache province in Indonesia; and the third SR 1.875 million- the second and final installment of the digging and cleaning wells project in Ache province, Indonesia.

In a statement, Al-Harthi said the Campaign with constant supervision and follow up from Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz presented and continues to provide assistances to many of the projects and programmes in the countries affected by the tsunami in medical, educational, housing and social spheres. So far, the campaign has assisted with a total amount of SR 325,404,604. --SPA
