Russia ready to contribute to APEC anti-crisis efforts - aide.
12/11 Tass 292
YOKOHAMA, Japan, November 12 (Itar-Tass) - Russia is ready to
contribute to anti-crisis efforts of the Asia-Pacific Economic
Cooperation, the president's foreign policy advisor, Sergei Prikhodko,
said on Friday.
"Russia is ready to make a constructive contribution to the APEC
efforts towards overcoming slowdown in the global economy and preventing
such situations in the future," he said in his comments on the APEC summit
that opens in Japan's Yokohama.
"During the summit it is planned to exchange opinions on coordination
of steps to get out of recession taking into account the results of the
G20 summit in Seoul," the aide said.
APEC leaders will also discuss a new growth strategy, the Doha
development round and a moratorium on new member-states of APEC, he said.
"Leaders have to adopt a new growth strategy developed this year that
aims to achieve balanced, inclusive, sustainable, innovative and secure
growth throughout the region," Prikhodko said.
"The draft document contains coordinated recommendations for
liquidating structural distortion in economies, securing the compatibility
of economic growth and climate change mitigation targets, ensuring access
of a wider population to advantages of globalization and creating safe
environment for economic activities," he said adding that "the strategy's
provisions are consonant with the key ideas of Russia's economic policy."
"APEC leaders are expected to adopt a statement on the Bogor Goals
assessing the progress made in building free and open trade and investment
by APEC industrialized nations by 2010 and developing economies - by
2020," Prikhodko said.
"In the discussions on the theme Russia pursues a firm policy aimed at
ensuring equality and consideration of interests of all participants of
integration processes as well as at preserving the principles of consensus
and voluntary involvement in the APEC activity," he said. "Russia is ready
for a dialogue on liberalization of trade in bilateral and multilateral
formats, of course, taking into account our trade and economic commitments
to partners within the framework of the Customs Union."
"Traditionally, a separate discussion will focus on the Doha round of
the WTO trade negotiations. Russia's accession to the WTO remains one of
the foreign policy priorities," he said.
Special attention will be paid to stronger joint efforts on security
of a person. "The talk is about the fight against terrorism, transport,
food, energy and information security, better readiness for emergencies,
counteraction to infectious diseases, attraction of opportunities of civil
society, businesses and media to respond to new challenges and threats on
the APEC space," Prikhodko said.
During the summit Russia will propose the date for the APEC summit in
Vladivostok in 2012. The United States will host the APEC summit in 2011.
