ASTANA, November 11 (Itar-Tass) - Kazakhstan's national atomic energy
company Kazatomprom and China's Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation
(CGNPC) signed in Astana on Thursday a long-term natural uranium
concentrate delivery contract.
The document was signed after the talks of Kazakh Prime Minister Karim
Masimov with visiting Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese
People's Political Consultative Conference Jia Qinglin.
Last April Kazatomprom and the CGNPC inked a memorandum of setting up
a joint venture for construction of nuclear power plants in China. The
sides agreed that Kazatomprom would deliver to China 24.2 tons of uranium
before 2020.
During the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to Kazakhstan in June
the sides concluded an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the
sphere of peaceful uses of atomic energy and the natural uranium
concentrate delivery contract between Kazatomprom and the CGNPC.
China is currently the largest consumer of Kazakhstan uranium.
