PRESIDENT MEETS AMBASSADORS OF EU MEMBER-COUNTRIES

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The President Ts.Elbegdorj received Ambassadors of European Union members- countries to Mongolia. At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador of FRG Mr P.Fisher introduced Ambassadors and Charges d'affaires of Great Britain, Bulgaria, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Cyprus, Poland, Portugal, Finland, Hungary and Sweden and deputy head of EU delegation in Mongolia.
The State Head mentioned that "Mongolia attaches importance to the relations with EU member-countries because we have a common values". He noted that the assistance from the European countries significantly has contributed to the gaining today's achievements adding "these achievements of the last 20 years' democratic process belong not only to us".
"We are working towards the abolition of death penalty. We are also working to increase local power, to provide civil participation, are struggling with corruption and conducting legal reforms," he said.
The President mentioned that "expanding in all fields our relations with EU and its member-countries has become one of foreign policy priorities and long-term strategic goals of Mongolia" adding "signing of Partnership and Cooperation agreement will play important role in realizing these goals".
At the meeting, Ambassador of Belgium asked about what kind of anti-corruption measures are being taken. Mr Elbegdorj replied that the country has the intention to join UN anti-corruption Convention and to include its clauses into the national anti-corruption law. Ambassador of Norway mentioned that in his country exists so-called "Oil fund" and asked whether Mongolia has created such a fund. Mr. Elbegdorj replied that here a "Fund of Human development" has been created.
