BI RAISES BENCHMARK RATE TO 9.00 PERCENT
Jakarta, July Aug 5 (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) raised its benchmark interest rate (BI rate) by 25 basis point from 8.75 percent to 9.00 percent, according to a BI press statement made available here on Tuesday.
The central bank in the press statement distributed to journalists said the decision to raise the BI rate was taken during a meeting of the BI board of governors.
It said that the BI rate was increased in an effort to stabilize the economic financial system and to support the mid-term inflation target.
BI Governor Boediono said BI still saw risks of inflationary pressures in the future which originated from world oil and food price fluctuations and demand pressures.
