Kapunda victims stabbed to death
The victims in the Kapunda triple murder were stabbed to death and police say their
killer may have also been injured in the frenzied attack.
The bodies of Andrew and Rose Rowe and 16-year-old Chantelle Rowe were found on
Monday at their rented Harriet Street home in the town, about 80 kilometres north of
Adelaide.
Major Crime Investigation Branch boss, Detective Superintendent Grant Moyle, on
Wednesday confirmed all three victims suffered multiple stab wounds.
He said detectives had followed a trail of blood from the house, with forensic
testing linking it to the crime scene.
"Andrew, Rosemary and Chantelle all suffered multiple stab wounds," Supt Moyle said.
"In such a case it is not unusual for the offender to receive some injuries.
"I would therefore ask any medical practitioners, health workers or any other person
who may have treated a person with sharp wound injuries or supplied them with
medical supplies to contact police immediately."
However, Supt Moyle said police had not established a motive for the killings.
He said detectives had spoken extensively with the family's surviving son
Christopher, who was holidaying interstate at the time of the murders.
He was able to provide information on the family's background but there were still
gaps in the victims' movements in the days before their deaths.
Supt Moyle said police were also checking on comments and posts on various social
networking sites, including Facebook, but conceded the large volume of information
online was causing difficulties.
"We are examining all of those things and they do pose an interesting challenge for
us," Supt Moyle said.
"People are posting comments on those social networking sites virtually immediately
after information is released.
"Some people do speculate and over exaggerate....but we do follow down all of those
inquiries.
"There are a number of rumours and innuendo flying around and some of the social
networking sites don't assist us in that regard.
"But we are following them all up, nonetheless."
Police will continue to examine the crime scene on Thursday and about 50 uniform
officers and detectives remain deployed in Kapunda.
They have already doorknocked about 300 homes and plan to doorknock every property
in the town, which has a population of about 3000.
