Gazprom, Kogas agree on 10 bln cbm gas supply to S Korea from 2017.

SEOUL, November 10 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's natural gas monopoly Gazprom
and Korea Gas Corporation (Kogas) have reached an agreement on annual
supplies of 10 billion cubic metres of Russian gas to South Korea starting
from 2017, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller who is member of the Russian
delegation accompanying RF President Dmitry Medvedev on a visit to South
Korea, told journalists on Wednesday.
"The time of the beginning of the supply of new volumes of Russian gas
to the Republic of Korea has been determined today - it is 2017, the
supply volumes will be at least 10 billion cubic metres of gas per year,"
Miller said. According to him, "Gazprom sees a growing market in South
Korea and, according to our estimates, in 6-7 years, it will grow at least
by 15 percent from the time of the beginning of Russian gas supply on the
Korean market."
Gazprom is the largest extractor of natural gas in the world and the
largest Russian company. Gazprom was created in 1989 when the Ministry of
Gas Industry of the Soviet Union transformed itself into a corporation,
keeping all its assets intact. The company was later privatised in part,
but currently the Russian government holds a controlling stake. In 2008,
the company produced 549.7 billion cubic metres (BCM) of natural gas,
amounting to 17 percent of the worldwide gas production. In addition, the
company produced 32 million tonnes of oil and 10.9 million tonnes of gas
condensate. Gazprom's activities accounted for 10 percent of Russia's
gross domestic product in 2008.
Korea Gas Corporation was incorporated by the Korean government in
1983. Since its founding, it has grown to become the world's largest LNG
importer. As the nation's sole LNG provider, the Corporation is fully
committed to providing clean, safe and convenient energy to the people of
Korea. In keeping with this mission, KOGAS currently operates three LNG
terminals and a nationwide pipeline network spanning over 2,739km in order
to ensure stable supply for the nation. KOGAS imports LNG from around the
world and supplies it to power generation plants, gas-utility companies
and city gas companies throughout the country. it produces and supplies
natural gas, purifies and sells gas-related by-products, builds and
operates production facilities and distribution network, and explores,
imports and exports natural gas for domestic and overseas markets.
