Maritime Territory offers seven new houses for WWII veterans
VLADIVOSTOK, November 9 (Itar-Tass) -- Seven new houses are built in Russia's Maritime Territory specially for veterans of World War II. Before the year ends, over 160 veterans will be able to move to their new one-room apartments, a source in the Territory's Department of social protection said.
"The houses were built will all the modern technologies," the source said. "The houses are located conveniently for the elderly people as they are next to local transport's stops."
As of November 1, the Maritime Territory has 1,457 veterans who need better living conditions. The administration has bought 881 flats and 319 more are being formalised now. The housing programme for the veterans and their spouses was supported by over 1.4 billion roubles from Russia's
federal budget.
"The new housing for the families of the Maritime Territory's veterans and their families is supervised exclusively by Governor Sergei Darkin," the source said. "The territorial, municipal and regional social services work individually with every veteran to choose a new or secondary market flat."
Primorsky Krai, bordered by China, North Korea, and the relatively
warm - though freezing in winter - waters of the Sea of Japan, is the
south easternmost region of Russia. It is stretched in the meridian
direction, the distance from its extreme northern point to its most
southerly point being about 900 kilometres. Highlands dominate the
territory. Most of it is mountainous, and almost 80 percent of it is
forested.
