Families of the dead will receive assistance money of 75,000 baht (US$2,500) for each case and 100,000 baht (S$3,300) will be paid to each family whose head of family died in the flood.

Thirty provinces remain submerged and 3,153,016 people have been affected by flooding, the department reported in its statement.

In Surat Thani’s Phrasaeng district on Tuesday, the Tapee River level was measured at 5.93 metres with continuing rainfall, causing floodwater to stream into 380 houses in four subdistricts, Chotnarin Kerdsom, chief of the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation agency, said.

In some areas, the floodwater is 2 metres deep, disrupting traffic.

Provincial authorities warned residents along the Tapee River in five districts to move their belongings to higher ground and to beware of possible flash flood and landslide.

In the northeastern province of Roi Et, villagers and officials in Changhan district have built a sand embankment along roads leading their village to prevent possible floods after the Chee River continued overflowing and floods houses nearby, according to district chief Somchai Klaituptim.

Reportedly, 14 homes were inundated and the villagers are moving their belongings and pets to a local school which the officials prepared for the affected people.

Mr Somchai also instructed village and subdistrict chiefs and other local officials to closely monitor the inundation-related situation around the clock.

In another development, Education Minister Chinnaworn Boonyakiat on Tuesday said that 3,441 schools and 186,000 students nationwide have been affected by the floods, 878 out of 3,441 schools remained closed and were set to reopen and resume classes on November 15.
