MOSCOW, November 8 (Itar-Tass) -- The Charitable Foundation named
after Artyom Borovik urged the Russian leadership to take all the measures for the soonest investigation in an attack on journalist Oleg Kashin.
It was stated at the 10th awarding ceremony of the Prize named after prominent Russian journalist Artyom Borovik on Sunday.
"At a ceremony we want to make public a letter to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev asking to investigate urgently this crime," Foundation's President Genrikh Borovik told Itar-Tass. "I hope that the whole journalist community will support us," he noted. According to him, more than 500 people were expected to attend the ceremony.
According to Borovik, the attack on Kommersant daily correspondent Oleg Kashin is "an awful tragedy." "Unfortunately far from all understand that the attack against the journalist is a challenge against the whole society," he pointed out.
"The 10th anniversary contest, which was held under the motto "Honour. Valour. Master skills", is intended to support the most talented and courageous journalists working in the genre of investigation," a source in the foundation recalled.
"One of the major criteria for the selection of the laureates is the personal valour in the fair coverage of the events, which is the quality inherent to the creative activities of Artyom Borovik, who died tragically in March 2000," the source said.
The prize winners are selected annually among the authors of Russian mass media (press, radio and television). The works (articles, feature stories, television and radio programs) issued from May 2009 through May 2010 are participating in the contest.
The special nomination dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War was presented this year.
