THE PARTY'S LEADER RE-ELECTED

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The XXVI Congress of the Mongolian People's Party session on November 5, 2010, which ended at 5 am next morning, concluded with a selection of its leader. At this historic Congress, the delegates decided to restore its original name and it is expected that they will re-register the Mongolian People's Party (MPP) name with the country's Supreme Court early next week.
The election of the MPP leader was held by the secret ballot. Current leader of the Party Mr. S.Batbold ran against U.Enkhtuvshin, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Parliament, and Mr. D.Demberel, Speaker of the State Great Hural, names of whom were nominated by the delegates during the Congress. Since Speaker D.Demberel had withdrawn his name before the casting began, the remaining two candidates addressed the Congress with their platform speeches. 788 delegates cast their votes and incumbent leader S.Batbold emerged as a clear winner with 85 per cent of votes in his favor. Out of 788 ballots, S.Batbold received 657 votes, while U.Enkhtuvshin got 116 votes.
Once the Congress Ballot Committee finalized the voting results, U.Khurelsukh, the Secretary-General of the MPP, made an official announcement of the ballot results, and handed over to the new Chairman of the MPP an original stamp of the Party, which was first made in 1922.
After the ceremony, S.Batbold addressed the Congress stressing needs to further deepen the party reform efforts and strengthen its unity. He also emphasized that as the new Leader of the Party, he would do his utmost to keep the election promises and secure the victory in the next Parliamentary elections, scheduled in 2012.
He noted that the Party's policy will be aimed at directing the country's economic growth to the need of human development, reduction of joblessness and poverty. The Congress is continuing November 7.
