NETHERLANDS TO BUILD PADANG TUNNEL MAINTAINING LOCAL TRADITION
Padang, Aug 5 (ANTARA) - PT Amagedon, a Dutch contractor, which is conducting a feasibity study of a tunnel project which consists of a 6-km Bungus-Pengambiran thoroughfare in Padang with an investment of Rp9 trillion will consistently maintain local tradition aspects.
"Maintaining local traditional aspects is very important, a Dutch government commitment to respect local cultural traditional values, otherwise we will be sternly reproved by the Dutch government," Director of PT Amagedon Shechan Shahab said in Padang on Monday.
Shechan Shahab, along with President Director of PT Amagedon Eddy Pieters were in Padang for several days for discussing the feasibility study of the construction of the tunnel mega project.
50 Percent of the result of the feasility study had already been sent to the Netherlands, and the rest is scheduled for completion by the end of this year.
He said the construction of the mega project will be carried out under close coordination with the local people, so as not to disrupt the ecosystem.
"The commitment to maintain local traditions and the green area has been fully met by PT Amagedon, to meet a requirement to obtain financial support from Europe," he said.
He said, if Amagedon failed to meet its commitment, the European investors will cancel their participation in building the tunnel.
Therefore, he added, we are truly committed to maintain the requirement, and also because of the minimum investment from Europe for Indonesia.
President Director of PT Amagedon Eddy Pieters said that upon the completion of the feasibility study by the end of this year, the next step would be the recruitment of 50 technical school graduates from Padang for a special 6-month training in Germany in tunnel bording machine operators.
"We are optimistic that the feasibility study would be completed as scheduled as the mega project is economically profitable, as the runnel will also be linked to the reclamation project of Teluk Bayur Port.
We are strongly resolved to build the tunnel which would also have an positive international impact on the Teluk Bayur port, namely the sale of water, fuel oil supply and the docking of ships, which had been enjoyed more by Singapore.
He said the construction of the tunnel will involve three consultants from the Netherlands and Germany.
Padang Mayor Fauzi Bahar said the funding of building the tunnel will be provided by European investors, starting from a feasibility study to construction work. The tunnel will be designed by a Dutch tunnel expert.
"The Dutch feasibility study team, along with a number of German geologists, will be building the quake-resistant tunnel up 10 on the Richter scale, " he said.
With special regard to land reclamation at the Teluk Bayur port, the poles and piles are expected to be prepared in Dubai, the Middle East,Iraq,Iran, and Hong Kong, while the raw materials are expected from West Sumatra, while local workers are available in abundance at low wages, he added.
