WIRAJUDA: FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN INDIVIDUALS IS BACKBONE OF WORLD PEACE
Jakarta, Aug 5 (ANTARA) - Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda said in the future, friendship among individuals from different countries would be the backbound of world peace, justice and prosperity.
"It is the world which has come up as the dream of the everybody," he said when receiving the 2008 Indonesian arts and culture scholarship (BSBI) recipients here on Monday.
According to the minister, it is one of the Indonesian diplomatic visions which are not only aimed to improve relations and cooperation with the government, but also strengthening relations between individuals.
As to the scholarship program, the minister hoped that the recipients would be able know more about Indonesia as unity in diversity of cultures, ethnicity and beliefs, but could unite based on mutual understanding.
The minister said so far in Indonesia, recipients also had the opportunity to join the community to enjoy the commemoration of 63th anniversary of Indonesian Independence on August 17, 2008.
This time the Indonesian arts and culture program was the sixth held since 2003. And till now 177 had been recipients of the scholarship from 28 countries.
The recipients from 30 countries were members of the Southwest Pacific Dialogue, Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), ASEAN+3, India, South Africa and some countries firstly involved in the program such as Azerbaijan, the Netherlands, Britain, the United States, Nauru dan Samoa.
