R.BARSBOLD AWARDED ROMER - SIMPSON PRIZE

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The president of Mongolia's Academy of Sciences B.Enkhtuvshin received Wednesday internationally recognised Mongolian scholar, Dr R.Barsbold, a director of the Paleontological Center of the Academy. He has recently been awarded the Romer-Simpson prize of the Society of Vertebrate paleontologists/SVP/. As we informed before, an awarding ceremony ran in October in Pittsburgh, USA, during the 70th anniversary meeting of the Society.
Since this supreme prize in vertebrate paleontology was set up in 1987, it has been awarded to 22 scholars. Mr. Barsbold has become the second person among the Asian scholars to receive this prize following a Chinese Zhou Ming-Zhen.
The prize heralds the Mongolian paleontologist's significant contribution to development of theoretical analysis in new directions and concepts and the worldwide studies of Mongolian ancient times' animals and plants and dinosaurs.
By the way, he has discovered two new species of carnivorous dinosaurs.
