The 2nd ASEAN Traditional Medicine Conference issues a seven-point joint statement

Hanoi (VNA) - The second ASEAN Traditional Medicine Conference issued a
seven-point joint statement at the conclusion of its three-day meeting in Hanoi
on Nov. 3.

The Hanoi Joint Statement states that the ASEAN member countries should develop
action plans and mechanisms to accelerate cooperation on traditional medicine;
enhance the integration of traditional medicine into national healthcare systems
as well as the sharing of management experience, knowledge and practice of
traditional medicine; and harmonise national technical criteria based on regional
standards to ensure the safety, effectiveness, and quality of traditional herbs of
each member country.

In the closing ceremony, Minister of Health Nguyen Quoc Trieu said future studies
should be promoted based on evidence of practical traditional medicine and
consumers should be encouraged to become active members in health care and to
initiate smart choices to maximise the benefits derived from traditional medicine,
while minimising potential risks. - Enditem
