Development, security wings for ECO members growth

Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said Wednesday that security and development were two wings for the growth of members of the Economic Cooperation Organization.

He made the remarks in a meeting with heads of the participating delegations of a newly-ended ECO expert gathering.

The two-day meeting had started in the Iranian capital by experts from the ECO member states who discussed common challenges facing the regional body's members.

Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkey are members of the ECO.

'The economic, trade, security and political ties of the ECO member states should be promoted through further cooperation among the regional body's members,' said the Iranian minister.

He stressed that the fight against illegal drugs, human trafficking, organized crimes and money laundering were major acts to safeguard security of the ECO member states.
