Iran, Congo study expansion of relations

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches significant importance to expansion of ties and cooperation with Congo.

Mottaki made the remarks in a meeting with the heads of Congolese Senate foreign relations, defense and security committees and members of Iran-Congo parliamentary friendship group.

Referring to anti-colonial campaign of the Congolese people, Mottaki said that he was pleased with close and sincere ties between the two countries and underlined that exchange of visits between the Iranian and Congolese high ranking officials indicated the excellent relations.

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign policy is based on expansion of cooperation with independent states under a just and globally acceptable procedure, he said.

Mottaki said that the current ties between Iran and Congo are good example to close cooperation, calling for practical steps in this respect.

Head of the Democratic Republic of Congo's Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Jean Claude Mokeni, for his part, criticized the current state of affairs in the international community and the negative attitude of the western countries against the independent states such as the Islamic Republic of Iran and Republic of Congo and called for expansion of cooperation with Iran.

He voiced his country’s readiness to make use of Iran’s invaluable experiences in various economic fields.

The Islamic Republic of Iran successfully overcame international sanctions and could turn to an exemplary model in the world, the senator said adding that Congo should seize the opportunity and make use of Iran’s experiences at large.
