Chinese experts warn against revanchist feelings in Japan
.
2/11 Tass 133
BEIJING, November 2 (Itar-Tass) -- Chinese experts, who comment on the
reaction of the Japanese ruling circles to the trip of President Dmitry
Medvedev to the Kurile Islands, point to the need of "being vigilant"
because of the revanchist feelings in Japan.
"Japan wishes to get rid of the image of a country, which suffered a
defeat in World War II, and to restore its interests, which were lost as a
result of the World War," said Lu Yaodong, director of the Institute of
Japanese Studies under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
"The world community should continue to be vigilant because of the
growing aggressiveness of Japan on the territorial problem," the Huanqiu
shibao [Global Times], newspaper quoted him as saying.
Local observers point to the fact that the present situation in
Russian-Japanese relations around the Kurile Islands coincided in time
with the heightening of tension in the Chinese-Japanese argument about the
Diaoyudao Islands in the East China Sea, which are regarded by China as an
inalienable part of its territory.
