MOSCOW, November 2 (Itar-Tass) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
does not intend to cancel his trip to the "G-20" summit in Japan's
Yokohama on November 13-14, a Kremlin administration official told
Itar-Tass.
"Of course, the visit to Japan remains on the president's schedule,"
the official said underlining that the recent disagreements between Moscow
and Tokyo would not make the head of the Russian state cancel his
participation in the top-level meeting.
As at other international forums, bilateral contacts between Medvedev
and the leaders of other countries are planned. "For example, his meeting
with U.S. President Barack Obama has already been coordinated. "The
meetings with other leaders are being coordinated at present. We don't see
any obstacles to holding a bilateral meeting between Medvedev and the
Japanese prime minister," the Kremlin official said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshito Sengoku
said Prime Minister Naoto Kan would hold a bilateral meeting with Russian
President Dmitry Medvedev, when the latter arrived at the APEC summit. But
then Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara said the issue of holding a
separate bilateral meeting between the Russian and Japanese leaders had
not been settled yet.
On Monday, the Japanese government officially protested against and
regretted over Dmitry Medvedev's trip to South Kuril islands, which Tokyo
regards to be its northern territories.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the Japanese protest
"unacceptable."
The APEC summit will take place in the port town of Yokohama on
November 13-14. Taking part in it will be leaders of 21 countries and
territories that are members of the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation
forum. The participants will include the leaders of Russia, China, the
United States, Japan, South Korea, and the states of Southeast Asia.
