SUZETTA TO RESIGN ONLY IF ASKED BY PRESIDENT
Jakarta, Aug. 4 (ANTARA) - National Development Planning State Minister/Head of the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) Paskah Suzetta stated that he would not bow to political pressure and only resign if President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asks him to do so.
"Frankly speaking, if because of political pressure trying to discredit me or assassinate my character, I will not resign, except if the President asks (me) to quit," Minister Suzetta said here on Monday, referring to his alleged involvement in the illegal fund flow from Bank Indonesia (BI) to House of Representatives (DPR) members in 2003.
He said at a planned meeting with President Yudhoyono he would explain everything that had developed in the public about the matter, including the fact that he had twice been grilled by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
"The President's decision to ask me for a clarification (on the matter) is good because it will enable me to explain the substance of what has happened in the Anti-Corruption Court or what the mass media have reported," he said.
According to the presidential schedule, the president would receive Paksah Suzetta and Forestry Minister MS Kaban at 1 pm on Monday at his office.
Presidential Spokesman Andi Mallarangeng had previously said the two ministers were to be summoned because the head of state wanted to hear the two ministers' personal explanations on their alleged involvement in the case.
During the meeting, the president would be accompanied by National Police Chief General Sutanto and Attorney General Hendarman Supandji.
Legislator Hamka Yandhu who was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for his role in the illegal transfer of BI (Bank Indonesia) funds in 2003, testified in a Corruption Court session recently that Paskah Suzetta had received Rp1 billion of the BI money and MS Kaban Rp300 million when they were members of the House's Commission IX in the 1999-2004 period,
Abdillah Tohah, a legislator from the National Mandate party (PAN) said earlier Suzetta and Kaban should resign for the sake of the effectiveness of the cabinet.
