PRESIDENT TO OPEN BIOTECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE
Bogor, Aug. 4 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is to officially open the Fourth Indonesian Biotechnology Conference (IBC-2008) at at State Palace here Tuesday.
Themed "Biotechnology for Better Food, Health and Environment," IBC-2008 will be held at the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) International Convention Center from August 5 to 7.
The conference is being jointly organized by the Indonesian Biotechnology Consortium (KBI) and the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI).
A number of foreign experts to participate in the conference will among others come from the United States, Japan, Korea, Iran, Australia and the Netherlands.
Research and Technology Minister Kusmayanto Kadiman will be a key speaker at the meeting, KBI Chiarman Prof. Bambang Praseya siad here on Monday.
The IBC 2008) is expected to provide a valuable venue for disseminating informations on the most current advances in the application of biotechnology, and even more importantly for
initiating collaboration efforts between scientists
and investors, to create new opportunities and develop the established industries.
Participants will have access to state-of-the-art biotechnology,
mainly in the field of agriculture, food industry,
environment, medical as well as marine biotechnology. Lectures will be given by world-class speakers both from Indonesia and abroad.
Among the speakers will be Akiho Yokota (Japan) who will speak on the application of biotechnology for bioenergy production; Antonius Suwanto (FTB Unika Atmajaya Jakarta) on marine biotechnology; Boenyamin Setiawan (Kalbe Farma) on medical biotechnology; Dedy Fardiaz (NA-DFC) on food biotechnology; Dessy Natalia (ITB-Indonesia vaccine recombinant; Didik H. Goenadi (BKPM) on Investment in biotechnology; Don-Hee Park (Connam National University, Korea) on biofuel; Fatchiyah (Central Laboratory of Life Sciences, Brawijaya University-Indonesia) on Molecular biomechanics of sex differentiation, and Umar Anggara Jenie (LIPI-Indonesia) on biopharmaceuthicals.
