MOSCOW, November 1 (Itar-Tass) - Afghan President Hamid Karzai is
fully satisfied with the information on a joint Russian-American anti-drug
operation, carried out on October 28 five kilometres away from the
Afghan-Pakistani border, the head of the Russian Federal Drug Control
Service, Viktor Ivanov, told reporters on Monday.
According to Ivanov, initially Karzai was displeased because he had
not been fully informed of the future operation, in which the Afghan
Interior Ministry also participated.
"At the present moment, the Interior Ministry has made a written
report to him on the operation. He is fully satisfied with the
information, and has no claims," Ivanov said.
A morphine and three heroin producing laboratories were liquidated as
a result of the special operation carried out by Russian and U.S.
anti-drug agencies. Over 900 kilograms of heroin and over 150 kilograms of
opiates have been destroyed.
According to Ivanov, U.S. and Afghan specialists received the initial
information on the whereabouts of the laboratories from Russia. Then, for
three months they were thoroughly preparing operations to destroy those
drug centres situated in the mountainous area in Achin district of
Nangarhar Province five kilometres from the Afghan-Pakistani border.
Russian representatives did not take part in the operation itself.
Failing to timely receive exhaustive information from his secret
services, Karzai criticized the operation at first, but now he has
reversed the stance.
