HANOI, November 1 (Itar-Tass) -- The situation with the Russian
tourists whose planned departure for Russia was detained by bad weather
has been sorted out, and they will soon fly home, a source in the Russian
embassy in Hanoi told Itar-Tass.
A group of Russian tourists who arrived for vacationing in Vietnam
from Vladivostok has asked for the Russian embassy's assistance to their
return home, said Sergei Babakhin, the chief of the embassy's consular
department. The flight of the Vietnamese Airline from Nha Trang resort,
where the Russian tourists were staying, was cancelled because of bad
weather the other day, and the tourists missed the once-a-fortnight
connecting flight of the Vladivostok Avia on the Hanoi-Vladivostok route.
The Russian embassy gave assistance to the tourists, meeting and
accommodating them in Hanoi. All the 17 persons, among them three
children, feel comfortable and will shortly fly home. Some of them will
make a flight via Seoul, while others will fly via Harbin and Beijing.
Embassy officials are sure all the Russian tourists will fly from Hanoi
before November 4.
In addition to re-issuing the air tickets to the Russian tourists,
another problem cropped up, the expiry of the 15-day visa-free stay in
Vietnam for Russian citizens. This problem will be settled, too. "At the
embassy's request, Vietnam's immigration authorities will grant the
extension of the visa-free stay to our compatriots," the chief of the
consular department said.
