Bart Cummings released from hospital
Bart Cummings has been released from a Melbourne hospital following a health scare
and is expected to be at Flemington on Tuesday for the Melbourne Cup.
Cummings, 82, was admitted last Wednesday night with a recurrence of a respiratory
condition and missed the lead-up win of his new superstar So You Think in Saturday's
Mackinnon Stakes.
The master trainer, who has won the Melbourne Cup 12 times, left the Epworth
Hospital on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier this year, Cummings spent some weeks in Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital with
pneumonia and missed his first autumn carnival in five decades.
More recently, Cummings was hospitalised after fracturing his pelvis in a fall at
his home at the end of August.
So You Think will jump from barrier three and is the favourite for the Cup ahead of
last year's winner, Shocking, who has the outside gate in the 24-horse field.
The Victoria Racing Club has said it will make sure all proper care is taken to look
after Cummings at the Cup meeting.
A top temperature of just 17C is forecast for Melbourne on Tuesday.
