Al- Eryani welcomes inserting Socotra into World Heritage List

SANA'A, Aug. 04 (Saba)- The political advisor of President Ali
Abdullah Saleh, Abdul- Karim al-Eryani hailed efforts have been done
by the government and the international organizations to insert
Socotra Archipelago into the UNESCO's World Heritage List.

He said, in the ceremony organized Sunday by the Ministry of Water
and Environment and the General Authority of Environment Protection
on the occasion of inserting Socotra into World Heritage List, that
the archipelago's joining to the list is a success for the water
ministry.

Al-Eryani valued role of the international organizations that helped
in making Socotra Archipelago the most important location in the
international heritage.

The secretary general of Yemeni National Committee of UNESCO
Mohammed al-Qadasi considered Socotra as the tourist landmark of
Yemen in the international ceremonies.

He made reference to the necessity to aware the archipelago's people
about the importance of joining Socotra Archipelago to the World
Heritage List.

Chairman of the General Authority of Environment Protection Mahmmoud
Shadiwah presented a detailed explanation about the steps and stages
passed by the process of joining Socotra to the World Heritage List.

It is worth mentioning that 878 locations were listed in the World
Heritage List till 2008, 679 locations are cultural, 174 natural and
25 are inserted into both categories.
