PRESIDENT RECEIVES WB COUNTRY DIRECTOR
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj met Thursday Mrs. Coralie Gevers, a new country manager of the World Bank (WB) for Mongolia; and Klaus Rohland, the WB's Country Director for China, Mongolia and Korea in the East Asia and Pacific Region.
"The World Bank has assisted Mongolia a lot. The bank has been instrumental to implement international programs in Mongolia. At present, the draft of Organic Budget Law has been submitted to the Parliament. It is important to give budget spending power to local authorities by decentralization. Mongolia needs to fight against corruption, improve social environment, follow rule of law, realize justice and do judicial reform.
I talked about the most challenging current issues facing to our country in my speech at the honorary session of the Parliament of Mongolia dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the first democratic permanent parliament in Mongolia," Mr. Elbegdorj said.
"We are delighted that the World Bank has been supporting our initiatives to increase civil participation. The bank has good experiences for its activities worldwide. Also Mongolia has good experiences those can be example for other countries. Mongolia is focusing on mining sector at present. Mongolia needs to have high technology and develop capacities of other sectors by next 10 to 20 years," the President has stressed, and hoped the WB officials will work with new ideas and initiatives and fresh energy in Mongolia.
In her turn, Ms. Gevers said that she listened to and read of the State Head's speech at the honorary session of the Parliament. "Like you, I will work for Mongolia with all my efforts. Financial stability is vital. There are many things to learn from Mongolia," Ms. Gevers added.
