Iran-Syria ties, based on logic: FM



Tehran, Aug 3, IRNA - The existing cooperation and relations between Iran and Syria are prudent and based on logic, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Sunday.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting President Bashar
al-Assad of Syria who arrived here for a two-day official visit on
Saturday, heading a high-ranking delegation.

President Assad is accompanied by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid
al-Mouallem and a number of senior Syrian officials.

He has, so far, conferred with his Iranian counterpart President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on issues of mutual interest as well as regional
developments.

On the latest developments in Tehran-Damascus relations, Mottaki said
President Assad's current visit would create "new atmosphere in
bilateral relations."
He also voiced readiness of the Iranian private sector to participate
in industrial activities in Syria.

The two officials also discussed major regional issues including the
current situation in Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine as well as major
international developments.

President Assad, for his part, called for further expansion of
Tehran-Damascus political and economic cooperation.
