RF army to get tens of armoured vehicles Tiger-M by year-end.
MOSCOW, October 27 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's armed forces will get tens
of light multirole armored vehicles (LMAV) Tiger-M by the year-end. The
vehicles have been developed at the military industrial company VPK.
The first upgraded version of the vehicle, VPK-233114 Tiger-M, was
presented at the International Exhibition of State Security Technology
INTERPOLITEX-2010, which is being held in Moscow.
According to spokesman for the VPK company, Sergei Suvorov, the
Defense Ministry's contract has been secured and the Arzamas Engineering
Plant has got down to the serial production of the LMAV Tiger-M." He said
the plant is capable of producing up to 500 vehicles annually, while the
current output averages 100 Tigers.
In accordance with customer requests the Tiger-M has been equipped
with an armoured hood, improved braking system, additional mountain brake,
bridges with mechanically locking differentials for greater crosscountry
capacity and an air conditioner.
As a result of the modernization the Tiger-M's mass was increased
somewhat to total 7,800 kilograms in comparison with the standard version
of 7,600 kilograms. "This has had no effect on the vehicle's payload, the
mass of the trailer it tugs, its speed or fuel endurance, Suvorov told the
military news agency ARMS-TASS.
He added the VPK company did not plan to present the LMAV Tiger-M at
the upcoming international defense exhibition IDEX-2011, due in the United
Arab Emirates in February 2011. The company is conducting no talks on the
vehicle's export either, Suvorov said.
As for the export of the basic version of the Tiger, Suvorov said ten
countries looked interested in having it. On the list of the potential
customers of Russia's Tigers may be Brazil, Jordan and Israel. One vehicle
has been already sent to Brazil's state of Rio de Janeiro. Even before the
end of its tests two other Brazilian states have enterered in talks on
purchasing tens of the LMAV Tiger vehicles.
The company is in talks with the China North Industries Corporation,
(NORINCO) on selling about 600 LMAV Tigers. Earlier, China purchased 50
such vehicles, Suvorov said.
