Police hunt suspects in Songkhla bombings

SONGKHLA, Aug 3 (TNA) – Thai police are inspecting footage from
surveillance cameras in an attempt to identify suspects in seven
simultaneous bombing attacks in Songkhla on Saturday night, while two
persons wounded in the incidents were expected to be discharged from
hospital within a week.

Deputy Commissioner Pol. Gen. Pansiri Prapawat travelled to Songkhla on Sunday to inspect the bomb sites in Hat Yai and Songkhla municipalities.

The remote-controlled bombs, weighing about half a kilogramme each, were believed to have been built and placed by memebrs of one group, who wanted to create chaos rather than cause serious damage. Police detained three young men for questioning, and released them Saturday night.

Permanent Secretary for Public Health Prat Boonyawongviroj said that no one was killed, but that two people were wounded in the simultaneous bombings. The victims suffered shrapnel wounds.
