DUSHANBE, October 26 (Itar-Tass) -- Tajikistan welcomes Kabul's
initiatives to consolidate all patriotic forces of the country for a
peaceful solution of the existing "problems and contradictions," Tajik
President Emomali Rakhmon, who is staying in Afghanistan on two-day
working visit, said. His speech was published the governmental news agency
Hovar.
"At this most important historical period we proceed from the fact
that close consolidation of patriotic forces and adherents to a political
settlement for the successful implementation of the peace process tasks in
the fraternal country is the demand of the time, therefore we in every way
possible support the measures to solve the crisis which are being
undertaken by the country's leadership," the Tajik leader said. He
stressed that "Tajikistan has always clearly stated its stand regarding
the Afghan issue," pointing that "there is and can be no military solution
of it."
The Tajik leader highly assessed the level of bilateral cooperation
with Afghanistan in such sectors as energy, border trade, construction,
aid in training cadres for Afghanistan.
"Today our interaction in the socio-economic sphere, creation of
infrastructural objects, building of roads, electric power lines, training
of cadres in different fields, education, health care and other directions
is invariably expanding," Rakhmon said.
"In this respect, special attention is being paid to the issue of
implementing such large-scale and historical projects of bilateral and
regional importance as the construction of the electric power lines
Sangtuda-Kunduz-Pulikhumri and the Tajik border-Pulikhumri-Kabul-Islamabad
(CASA-1000), the railway connecting Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran with
other states of the region," the Tajik leader noted, stressing that "our
countries proceed from the fact that their implementation meets the
interests of peace, stability and stable development of Afghanistan and
our region." Emomali Rakhmon cited as an example of successful cooperation
the construction of five major bridges across the border river Pyandzh,
training of medical specialists for medical institutions of Afghanistan
and aid in training border-guard officers.
According to the results of two-day talks, the sides signed six
intergovernmental agreements in the field of energy, border trade,
communications and other fields.
