MOSCOW, October 26 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Deputy Energy Minister
Anatoly Yanovsky said the dynamic and consistent energy cooperation has
become one of the guidelines in Russian-South Korean relations which
enabled them to raise relations to the level of strategic partnership.
"Over the recent years, South Korean companies have received orders
from Russia worth billion of dollars, to manufacture equipment for Russian
energy projects and the construction of modern tankers to ship oil and
liquefied gas," Yanovsky said in an interview to the South Korean
newspaper JoongAng Ilbo.
"Russia also offered South Korea to study the opportunity to
participate in Gazprom's projects in the Far East within the scope of
implementing the government's eastern gas program, in particular
cooperation in gas and chemical projects in the hydrocarbon fields of the
republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
Cooperation in nuclear power engineering has special significance for
the development of Russian-South Korean relations, the deputy minister
underlined.
"To meet the needs of South Korean nuclear power plants,
Tekhsnabexport has been developing interaction with Korean Hydro Nuclear
Power in supplies of uranium products for 13 years," he said.
"South Korea has high-tech mechanical engineering, which creates
pre-requisites for joint work within the projects to build energy
facilities in the Asian-Pacific region," Yanovsky noted. As a positive
example of this interaction, he cited the supplies of Korean equipment to
build the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in India. "Therefore, the field
for our cooperation is broad; it is important to keep pace and step up our
cooperation," the official said.
