Envoy denies talks with U.S. representatives in Rome

TEHRAN, Oct. 25 (MNA) -- Iran’s Ambassador to Italy Mohammad Ali Hosseini dismissed news that the Iranian and U.S. representatives held talks on the sidelines of the Afghan summit in Rome last week.
Such a meeting was not held, Hosseini told on Sunday.

The Afghan summit which was held on October 18 reviewed progress made in achieving the stability needed to guarantee democracy and development in the region with special attention paid to the transfer of control of Afghanistan to local authorities.

Hosseini added that Iran’s policy toward Afghanistan is to help promote peace and security in the country.

Commenting on the Afghan summit, the ambassador noted that holding such summits lays the groundwork for further effective cooperation among regional states and Afghanistan.

However, it would not be realistic to expect desirable outcomes from such summits within a short period of time.
