France to open cheese-making school in Siberia.
BARNAUL, October 22 (Itar-Tass) -- The French province of
Franche-Comte plans to open a joint cheese-making school in the Russian
Altai Territory in southern Siberia next year, Altai administration said
on Friday.
A corresponding agreement is to be signed in Strasbourg by Altai
Governor Alexander Karlin and Franche-Comte President Marie-Marguerite
Dufay in late October.
"The cheese-making school is a unique research and educational
establishment which is to unite the whole progressive experience in milk
processing and cheese-making accumulated in Franche-Comte and Altai
Territory," said Yelena Zinkova, head of the legal department of the
regional administration.
Last year Altai Territory produced a quarter of all Russian-made
cheese or 69 thousand tons.
The school is to open by 2012 and will be based in the Siberian
Cheese-Making Research Institute. Franche-Comte will contribute equipment
and lecturers.
