MOSCOW, October 21 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
will pay an official visit to Vietnam in late October - early November,
Vietnam's ambassador to Russia Bui Dinh Dinh told a news conference on
Thursday.
"Hanoi is longing to welcome Dmitry Medvedev," he said. "The leaders
of the two countries will discuss actual cooperation areas, such as the
investment sector, machine-building, and the peaceful use of nuclear
power."
During his stay in Vietnam, the Russian president is to meet with
Vietnam's president, prime minister and National Assembly speaker. "Our
country attaches paramount importance to a would-be document on the
construction of a nuclear plant in Vietnam" and seeks to receive a Russian
loan to this end, the Vietnamese diplomat said. "Details will be specified
after the project's feasibility study is over," he added.
It is expected that Medvedev's talks in Hanoi will be crowned by a
joint communique and a package of other documents, such as agreements in
the areas of justice, information and communications, and on mutual
protection of the results of intellectual activity in the area of
technological cooperation, he said.
The Vietnamese ambassador said he was sure the Russian president's
visit to Hanoi "will open up a new stage in friendship and cooperation,
which can already be called strategic."
It was reported earlier that the Russian president would visit Vietnam
in October to attend the second Russia-ASEAN summit in Hanoi.
