BISHKEK, October 21 (Itar-Tass) - International donors have confirmed
at a meeting in Washington that they intend to allocate 245 million
dollars to Kyrgyzstan before the end of the year, Kyrgyz Finance Minister
Chorobek Imashev said at a press conference here on Thursday.
According to his information, Russia accounts for 130-150 million
dollars from that sum. The World Bank will allocate 28 million dollars,
and the Asian Development Bank - 40 million dollars.
A total of 52 per cent of the sum will be allocated in the form of
grants, and 48 per cent - in the form of credits. Russia will grant a loan
to Kyrgyzstan at an interest rate of one per cent for 25 years, Imashev
added.
He stressed that the financial assistance "will be a heavy burden,
added to the foreign debt of the country, but it is the only way so far to
cover the budget deficit."
Roza Otunbayeva also mentioned the foreign debt problem on Thursday.
Speaking at the celebration of the U.N. Day, she expressed hope that the
U.N. "will support the initiative of Kyrgyzstan on writing off part of its
foreign debt in exchange for investments in ecology."
At the same time, Ms. Otunbayeva said that 1.6 million Kyrgyz
nationals lived below the poverty level, and "the Kyrgyz authorities
cannot but be worried about the figure."
