Gazprom CEO, Irkutsk reg gov to confer about gas supply
IRKUTSK, October 20 (Itar-Tass) - Gazprom CEO Alexei MiIler and
Irkutsk Region Governor Dmitry Mezentsev are to confer here on Wednesday
about prospects for the supply of gas and installation of gas service in
the region. They will also sign an agreement on next phase of this work,
an official in the press service of the Governor and Government of the
region has told Itar-Tass.
Cooperation between Gazprom and the regional authorities was launched
in 2004. A Master Plan for gas supply and installation of gas service in
the region was fixed as early as in December 2005. According to the Plan,
899 inhabited areas must be switched over to the use of gas by the year
2015 while the scope of the installation of gas service is to be brought
up to 82 percent. As a result, 2.1 million people out of the region's
population of 2.5 million will be able to use natural gas.
Work has begun in the area of Bratsk, where the development of a gas
deposit was started; a gas trunkline has been built, and power facilities,
populated areas, and motor transport are being converted to the use of gas.
Governor Mezentsev said, "The installation of gas service in the towns and settlements of the Irkutsk Region is becoming a reality and it is now essential to sign a new agreement between the government of the region and Gazprom".
Under the Eastern gas programme, provision is made in Irkutsk Region for the establishment of a new gas production and processing center. Under consideration is the possibility of building a gas processing plant and a gas chemistry facility in the area of the town of Sayansk on the basis of the Chikan gasfield, the license for the development of which belongs to Gazprom.
