ICIS TO APPOINT REPRESENTATIVES IN FIVE REGIONS
Jakarta, Aug. 2 (ANTARA) - Secretary General of the Third International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) Hasyim Muzadi has said that ICIS will appoint representatives in five regions, namely Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Central and South Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe and America.
"We will organize ICIS meeting every four years, and in between, we will hold a regional conference in the five regions," he said here on Friday following the closing of the 3rd ICIS.
The ICIS also planned to set up a think-tank on conflict prevention and peace building, he said.
Muzadi said the Islamic world should emphasize on self-defense efforts, rather than wasting energy to fight enemies. He also called for unity of Muslims all over the world.
Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Hassan Wirajuda said ICIS was striving to correct misperception which associates Islam with violence and terrorism.
The third ICIS, which was held from July 29 to Aug. 1, 2008, was attended by 300 participants from more than 50 countries, to discuss conflicts arising in Muslim-populated countries.
