Official: Peace in Afghanistan border, priority for Tehran

Rome, Oct 20, IRNA – Iran’s special envoy in international meeting of “ Stability in Afghanistan” here said that peace and security in Afghanistan are very important for Iran adding that peace and tranquility in Afghanistan border is a priority for Tehran.

Mohammad Ali Qana’ Zadeh told Italian official news agency ( ANSA) here on Tuesday that Iran is in front line of fight against drug smuggling from Afghanistan, but international community is not serious in this concern.

He added that 3,700 members of Iranian border guard have been killed so far in fighting against smugglers.

'Meanwhile, when we demand help from international community to give our border guard night vision camera, scanner and radar to chase smugglers, they say that these items are among goods with dual use and cannot be sold to Iran,' said the official.

Foreign Ministry director general for west Asia Affairs said Iran believes in a regional cooperation for stability in Afghanistan and all countries of international community, including USA, should support the issue.

International meeting of “ Stability in Afghanistan” kicked off its work here in the capital of Italy on Monday behind closed doors with participants from 46 countries, including Iran, and several international organizations./end
