Venezuela`s President to make 8th visit to Iran.
TEHERAN, October 19 (Itar-Tass) - President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela
arrives in Teheran Tuesday for a two-day visit, in the course of which he
is due to have talks with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and other
high-rank Iranian officials.
The negotiations in Teheran will center around the major international
problems and key issues of bilateral economic cooperation.
For Chavez, this will be the eighth visit to Iran. He visited Teheran
twice - in April and September - last year alone.
Ahmadinejad, too, has visited Venezuela more than once. His last visit
took place in November 2009.
Iran and Venezuela are bound by an allied relationship, since
according to Ahmadinejad both countries "are acting as the advance guard
on the anti-imperialist front."
Chavez refers to Ahmadinejad as "a close friend and associate" and "a
great fighter with imperialism." He was among the first foreign leaders to
congratulate the Iranian President on the occasion of re-election for the
office last year.
The election of 2009 was followed by a political crisis that did not
have any parallels in Iran's history since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
Chavez visited Russia, Belarus and Ukraine in the previous legs of his
current tours. From Iran, he is expected to go to Syria and then to
Portugal.
