18/10 Tass 111

ASTANA, October 18 (Itar-Tass) - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All
Russia said the onrushing advent of religious and moral relativity in the
20th century led to the spiritual decline of mass culture.
Addressing participants in the World Forum of Spiritual Culture on
Monday, Patriarch Kirill said, "The onrushing advent of religious and
moral relativity in the 20th century led to the spiritual decline of mass
culture. The faith and moral are expulsed by material wealth and sensual
pleasures."
"We will be able to overcome all problems by waking up the best
feelings in persons - love, sympathy, loving-kindness, as well as striving
for moral purity and the ability to see a neighbour in every person and
God in his neighbour," His Holiness said.
He praised the fact that the forum's key task "is to attract public
opinion to traditional moral values". Patriarch Kirill said he is hopeful
that his activity "will help keep spiritual heritage and solve difficult
problems of civilisation".
Over 500 famous scientists, politicians, cultural figures and
spiritual overseers are involved in the World Forum of Spiritual Culture
currently underway in Astana.
