Head-on smash kills boy, injures four

A child has died and four other people have been injured in a head-on smash in
northern Victoria.
Two trucks collided on the Loddon Valley Highway north of Bendigo, police said.
Paramedics were called just after noon on Monday and found a boy, believed to be
12-years-old, had died at the scene.
The other passengers in a light truck, a five-year-old girl and two women, aged 32
and 34, were taken to hospital.
The girl had suffered a fractured leg.
The group had been hauling a horse trailer near Bears Lagoon, about 60km north of
Bendigo, when their truck collided head-on with a semi-trailer prime mover.
The truck's 50-year-old driver suffered minor injuries.
The child's death took the state's road toll to 249. At this time last year there
were 219 road deaths.
