ASHGABAT, October 18 (Itar-Tass) -- Some 300 representatives from
international organizations and foreign companies from 40 world nations
have gathered in the Turkmen capital for the 2nd investment forum, which
opened on Monday.
"The basic goal of Turkmenistan's investment policy is to achieve
harmonious, comprehensive development of all sectors of our economy, not
just specific industries," President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly
Berdymukhamedov said in his address to the forum. "In our efforts to
regulate investment activities, we are paying paramount attention to the
intellectual capital, i.e. to cutting-age technologies and research
developments."
Among participants in the forum are executives from the European Bank
for Reconstruction and Development, the Islamic Development Bank, the
Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Deutsche Bank, and the
International Financial Corporation.
The forum's agenda centers round projects in the fuel and energy
sector, i.e. those related to the prospecting for and production of
hydrocarbons, and to the development of petrochemical and electricity
production sectors. Among other subjects for discussion are such
industries as building, infrastructure, tourism, textiles and agriculture,
health care and pharmaceuticals, information technologies and
telecommunications.
The forum is expected to take steps to establish the first investment
company with the participation of Turkmenistan's State Bank for Foreign
Economic Activity and the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the
Private Sector. Participants in the forum are planned to have talks with
Turkmen government officials.
Among participants in the forum are such Russian companies as Gazprom,
Tatneft, Rusneft, Renaissance Bank, Gazprombank, and the Russian Union of
Industrialists.
