IMPROVED LIFE IS MAIN TARGET TO OVERCOME CONFLICTS, FOREIGN MINISTER SAYS

Jakarta, Aug 2 (ANTARA)- Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajudha believed that an improvement in social and economic life is the first that needs to be achieved by muslim scholars in efforts to bring about peace in the muslim world.

"There would be no peace without progress," Minister Wirayudha said after the conclusion of the third International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) in Jakarta on Friday.

The Third ICIS ended its four-day meeting with the issuance of a call for efforts to reduce Islamophobia in the world.

Hassan said the moslem world should work hard to eradicate social and economic injustices which could trigger conflicts among religious adherents, among people with different religious creeds and between governments and societies.

Now only nine Islamic states are grouped in the developed countries, while the rest were still struggling for welfare of their people, the minister said.

According to him, scholars have an opportunity to formulate practical measures in overcoming economic, political and social obstacles to promote peace and development.

Earlier, Hasyim Muzadi, ICIS secretary general underlined the importance of Muslims to conduct an introspection for a positive contribution to the peace.
