Russia, Poland agree on gas deal text

WARSAW, October 18 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia and Poland agreed on the text
of an intergovernmental agreement on Russian gas supplies to Poland, a
source in the Polish Economy Ministry said on Sunday.
"The negotiations between government officials from Poland and Russia
and representatives of the European committee on gas supplies in Poland
have completed in Moscow. The sides have agreed on the text of an
intergovernmental agreement, which is to be signed after the companies
EuRoPol GAZ and
Gaz-System complete the negotiations on the gas operator contract,"
the source said.
The updated contract envisages Russian higher gas supplies by two
billion cubic meters annually to Poland. Despite the previous agreement on
the gas supply contract extended until 2037 and the gas transit contract
extended until 2045, the contract timeframe remained unchanged, so Russian
gas supplies will be made until 2022 and gas transit supplies until 2019,
as it was stipulated in the previous contract.
Before a new agreement enters into force it is to be signed at the
level of governments and between Gazprom Export and Polskie Gornictwo
Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG). Their joint venture EuRoPol GAZ, which owns
the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline, under the European Commission requirements,
is to empower the Polish state-run company Gas-System to be an operator of
the gas pipeline.

.Russia awaited on int'l floors as equal and active partner.

RABAT, October 18 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia is awaited on international
floors as an equal and active partner, chairman of the State Duma
Committee for Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev told Itar-Tass on
Sunday. Kosachev is participating in the World Policy Conference in the
Moroccan city of Marrakech.
"Russian issues were raised in many speeches and for the first time in
many years Russia was discussed not as a source of problems and
disagreements, but as a country offering new approaches and decisions," he
noted. "The keynote issue in the speeches was the idea that Russia should
join a future structure of global management and the settlement of global
problems as an equal participant and a partner," Kosachev pointed out.
This is "the pledge of our future issues for cooperation, including
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's initiative on a new European security
treaty," he went on to say.
The Russian lawmaker noted that the World Policy Conference discussed
many pressing international problems, including the situation in the
Middle East, around Iran, North Korea and Afghanistan. "Most participants
in the Marrakech forum agreed that all these issues cannot be settled
without Russia's active participation," Kosachev pointed out. Meanwhile,
he acknowledged that "Russia was criticized at the conference for
insufficient activity and initiative-making that is also one of serious
results of the forum."
Summing up the forum results Kosachev said, "Russia is awaited on
international floors as an equal and active participant of corresponding
processes." "The attitude to Russia as a country, which is isolated or
self-isolated, is definitely left in the past," he said, adding that "now
much depends from us, from those approaches that we will offer to the
international community, from how interesting and needed our initiatives
will be." "I am convinced that our foreign political activities, including
on the Middle East track, are expected with a keen interest," Kosachev
remarked.
About 150 prominent politicians, representatives of international
organizations, big business, academic circles and the expert community are participating in the World Policy Conference, which the French Institute of International Relations organized.
