International seminar on Ichari Shahar kicks off in Baku

Baku, October 18 (AzerTAc). An international seminar on application of historical urban landscape approach in conservation and development of Ichari Shahar has kicked off today in Azerbaijan`s capital Baku.
The event was organized by the Office of Ichari Shahar (Inner City) State Historical-Architectural Reserve in association with UNESCO.
Opening the seminar, Mikayil Jabbarov, the chief of the Office of Ichari Shahar (Inner City) State Historical-Architectural Reserve highlighted the importance of the seminar. He added the aim of the seminar is to discuss the preparation of a concept of historical urban landscape and apply it in Ichari Shahar. He noted the Inner-Shahar Complex received a status of historical and architectural preserve in 1977, and since 2000 it has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Representative of UNESCO World Heritage Center Ron Van Oers briefed on the recommendation on historical urban landscape and including it into the agenda of the 36th session of the UNESCO General Assembly to be held next year.
The event attended by employees of UNESCO`s World Heritage Center and experts from US, Finland, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, France, Poland, Austria and Australia will end on October 21.
Ichari-Shahar is the Old City or the Inner City, which is located in the heart of Baku, and is a real town-planning and architectural preserve, surrounded by the fortress wall.
