Iran's “Rustam and Sohrab” warmly received in Georgia

TEHRAN, Oct. 18 (MNA) -- Veteran Iranian stage director Behruz Gharibpur who attended the Tbilisi Festival of Theater with his puppet show “Rustam and Sohrab” expressed his pleasure over the warm welcome received from the Georgians.

The viewers received the show with unexpected warmth and the performance was favorably covered in the Georgian press, Gharibpur told on Saturday.

The puppet show went on stage at the festival running from September 29 to October 15 with troupes coming from Italy, Germany, France, Estonia, Lithuania, Armenia, Croatia and Russia.

“Officials at Tbilisi State University asked me to hold a master class for students. They also would like us to produce a joint puppet show with Georgian artists who seek further studies,” he said.

“We first need to find out more about their potential on theater. The officials insist on holding a master class before the end of this year, and I think the month of December would be appropriate,” he added.

He explained that the trip was full of positive experiences for him and his troupe. “We had a minimum of information about their country, but we heard of many individuals with names derived from Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh, something which was astonishing for us.”

He later talked about his next project, a puppet show of “Hafez”. “We have heard that Fars Governor General Office has announced a willingness to invest in the project. If this is true, we would begin it soon, but I am not particularly hopeful.

“When we staged opera puppet show ‘Rumi’ successfully, I thought it would bring us more credits while it turned out to be the opposite,” he remarked.

“Different countries have so far announced willingness to invest in the Hafez project.
