2nd business forum opens in Abkhazia.

SUKHUM, October 16 (Itar-Tass) - Abkhazia hosted its 2nd business
forum on Friday. Taking part in it were large Russian companies, such as
Gazprom, Rosneft, Megafon, VTB Bank, the R-GROUP investment-construction
holding, the federal tourism agency and the Zarubezhkurort foreign
economic association.
The forum was organized by the Institute for Eurasian Studies
Development Foundation.
"It is gratifying to see that the role of the Abkhazian business forum
grows each year, as the number of participants shows. Among them are
members of the Russian government, governors and bankers. This indicates
the increasing interest in Abkhazia from the point of view of economic
cooperation, " the republic's Prime Minister, Sergei Shamba, said at the
opening of an exhibition within the framework of the forum.
"The objective of the forum is to create favorable conditions for
investments in the first place," Shamba said.
He thanked the Russian leadership for acknowledging Abkhazia's
independence. "Whereas we lived for long years in expectation of
aggression, entirely new circumstances have developed now, which give
reliable security guarantees. This, in turn, will give an impulse for
economic development of the country," the prime minister said.
Speaking about the plan of Abkhazia's socio-economic development in
2010-2012, Shamba underlined that it addresses such fields as housing and
utilities, transport infrastructure, electricity supply, agriculture,
social projects and the rebuilding of certain industrial facilities.
He is confident that the results of this program's implementation will
be seen as early as next year.
"The business forum is directly related to these objectives. It is a
common task for the inter-governmental commission and our business forum.
The main objective is to create an attractive information and investment
climate in Abkhazia," Shamba said.
Russian Minister of Regional Development Viktor Basargin who attended
the forum, wished the participants success and excellent work.
