STATE HEAD: SUKHBAATAR'S STATUE IS UNIQUE ARTWORK
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The State Head Ts.Elbegdorj met Friday G.Monkhbayar, a Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city, and J.Saruulbuyan, a director of National Historical Museum of Mongolia. They have discussed issues concerning a statue of D.Sukhbaatar.
The President has said the original statue of D.Sukhbaatar, which used to stand on the central square bearing his name, is an important thing for national history. He thinks that the statue must be stored in the National Historical Museum because it is a unique work of art. "It is vital to keep the original copy of the statue, the city authorities and the National Historical Museum should care for the statue as well as for chains that were hung around it," Ts.Elbegdorj said.
The Mayor and the museum's director have appreciated the State Head's position and promised to take all actions accordingly.
The statue of D.Sukhbaatar (Mongolian military leader in the 1921 revolution) is one of the creations made by a sculptor S.Choimbol. It was erected in 1946 on the square on occasion of the 25th anniversary of the People's Revolution. The sculptor was awarded the state prize.
